Citrus Granita

It's fresh citrus season and the tangerines have been super good this year. And while I love the idea of tangerines, I really, really hate all the seeds. This makes tangerines perfect candidates for juicing and turning into granita, savory stir-fries, cakes, and spritzers.

Here is a simple beef stir-fry made with sprightly tangerine juice plus my favorite granita. Oranges work just as good of course, and both are super high in vitamin C—always a good nutrient to stock up on during the cold months. I have my son Sam juice the tangerines with our electric juicer and we're halfway there.

Tangerine Beef Stir-Fry

3/4 cup fresh tangerine juice
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 pound round steak cut into 2-inch strips
2 tablespoons cornstarch
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 head crisp cooked broccoli

1. Combine juice, vinegar, soy sauce and sugar. Toss beef with cornstarch, salt and pepper.
2.In large skillet heat oil, add beef and garlic, cook until browned. Add tangerine juice mixture and broccoli. Cook over high heat until sauce thickens, 4 minutes. Serve with white or brown rice.
